Grandview
From Highway 99 East to Highway 15, and from 32 Avenue down south to 24th avenue is the area of Grandview.
History
In 1922 the Surrey School Board had agreed
to buy land on the corner of Stokes Road and Clover Valley Road as well
as
provide workers and materials needed to build a one-room school, a wood
shed
and two outhouses. The school opened on
May 25, 1922 and the first teacher was Mrs. Delta Hugh who was the wife
of
Fabian Hugh of Hugh and McKinnon. For
the first decade the school did not have any lighting because
electricity was
not available yet but the students and teachers compromised with
candles and
natural daylight. In 1942 the school
finally replaced their old wood stove with a central heating system
giving more
efficient heat throughout the school. The school was given the name of
Grandview Heights because of the grand
view of Semiahmoo Bay and Blaine that could be seen from the roof of
the
school. Although the school has served
many students it has been set to close in 2006 and the students from
the school
will transfer to a new school named Pacific Heights.
